How is stamp duty calculated in Karnataka?
Karnataka has a tiered stamp duty structure based on property value: 2% for properties below ₹20 lakhs, 3% for properties between ₹20 lakhs and ₹45 lakhs, and 5% for properties above ₹45 lakhs. Registration charges are 1% across all categories.
This tiered structure makes Karnataka relatively affordable for first-time homebuyers purchasing properties in the ₹20-45 lakh range. The KAVERI portal (kaveri.karnataka.gov.in) manages all property registration services.
Bengaluru property registration
Bengaluru properties have some of the highest circle rates in Karnataka due to IT corridor demand. Areas like Whitefield, Electronic City, Sarjapur Road, and Hebbal have high market values. Registration must be done at the Sub-Registrar Office of the zone where property is located.
KAVERI portal — Karnataka registration
The KAVERI (Karnataka Valuation and E-Registration) portal allows online appointment booking, property valuation lookup, stamp duty payment, and document upload. This has significantly reduced registration time in Karnataka.
